Pre-session checklist

Introduction (5 minutes)

"Hi [Participant name], thanks so much for joining us today. Your feedback will really help us improve our product.

Here's what we're doing: We're testing [product/website name] to understand how people interact with it and where we can make it better. The important thing to know is that we're testing the product, not you. If something feels confusing or difficult, that's exactly what we need to hear– it helps us know what to fix.

Today's session will take about [duration]. I'll ask you to try a few tasks while sharing your thoughts out loud. This helps us understand your experience as it happens.

I'd like to record our session so I can focus on our conversation instead of taking notes. We'll only use the recording internally to improve the product. Does that sound good?

Any questions before we start?"

Warm-up questions (5 minutes)

"Let's start with a few questions so I can understand your background:

  1. What's your experience been like with [relevant product category]?
  2. How often do you [relevant activity]?
